it’s a fine line
hi guys how’s it going?
it’s a july monday evening, for some kids it’s a great summer full of carefree days and not thinking of much more than fun in the sun.
i’m taking some of that energy tonight and doing the things i enjoy, one of which as you may know, is being here.
not just cause i love you, but also cause it’s a journal and a record of this life o’ mine.
after all, it’s a web log, right?
lately it’s been fun to see posts on facebook from the past.
memories, events and feelings would have been long forgotten.
it let’s you in on where you were at any moment.
this blog is 10 years old now, hard to believe.
funny it’s taken me this long to realize how powerful it can be to track yourself
.
and what about that ol’ here and now?
well, today i wanted to share some images that have been piling up
i’m working on the new website and coming across what must be thousands of images.
as i was about to empty the recycle bin and realized that they are too pretty not to share. and that trash can really be treasure.
so in no particular order, and with no rhyme or reason, here are a few.
as i go through them i just see them as soul food.
pretty
intricate
historic
groundbreaking
unprecedented
and delish.
well i hope you enjoyed this trip to nowhere.
as for me, i’m about to start the night shift and get to making sense of all this fodder.
have a beautiful night and sweet, full moon dreams!
on the road again
bonjour! coming to you today from the beautiful and now fully enjoyed and only semi explored jewel of a town, biarritz, france. this is a place i’d never been but fell madly in love with and could actually consider living in one day. magical, transformative, chic, serene, inspiring, healing, infinte in its own right and in all that surrounds it… it’s actually travel day and i’m pressed for time and apologize for having to rush through yet another post. this one is a little image heavy because once again i got sucked into what what supposed to be a quick inspection of vintage photos of beach fashion in biarritz. well, opening that door led me to a magnificent (and time consuming) world of beauty with an introduction to photographers, artists and muses. pleasurephotoroom-biarritz-beach-suit-by-schiaparelli i could talk about who’s who and what’s what but instead tried to add the links where i found the photos. they’re wonderful links and collections of fashion, lifestyle, creativity and the joie de vivre. they’re as interesting as some of the photos and i hope you click their links to enjoy an even deeper look into this chapter of the past.
i’d been obsessed with an overview of the town since i heard we were coming. a history buff, i always wonder how it began, who put the first stake in the ground, how that could have happened with no real tools but pencil and paper, hard work and vision. the deeper i dug today the more i learned about people, perseverance, beauty, photography and style and life. first of all, such a little can tell so much in a photograph
Chanel sports ensemble, ca. 1928 Design by Coco Chanel second of all, style is transcendent, whether city or beach, the following photos show how it’s done. i wish i could repack my bag and start over. i overpacked and have a new perspective on what i’ll bring traveling next time! missmoss-the-seeberger-brothers everyday-i-show.livejournal.com retronaut.com
thirdly, there’s the master, Jacques Henri Lartigue – Casino de Biarritz 1918 i knew of him but have a new appreciaton for his attention to detail and simplicity.
please know that i’m not sure about every single photo and that the credits are completely correct but you can always use google images if you want to double check on some.
i was just eager to get them posted cause my egg timer is running out and so is the juice on my laptop. so from here i’ll just say i hope you enjoy this slice of life on the beach, my own camera was lost on the first day here so i really haven’t taken any photos. in a way i don’t mind cause these have really struck me. i’ll definitely look at shooting my own images in a new way once i get another real camera in my hands.

so much has changed since this time last year

i read the title of this post on pinterest and thought how true it really was. for all of us! good morning everyone and happy saturday! we’re knee deep into autumn and i was hoping for a hit of indian summer as i’m heading to nyc for a week. it’s just not going to happen so i’ll be a big girl and take on the cold without complaint and get into the spirit of the city. the good thing about cold weather is being able to justify nesting (aka watching old movies and working from home. i think i’ll have to check out ‘rolled stockings’ below).

as much as i love my florida life, new york is like an old friend; familiar, unchanging, strong, welcoming, a veritable beacon of light, and of course, always ready to have a good time together. i’d really like to enjoy every minute of it absorbing all the energy and excitement it exudes.

no matter how the years go by there’s always such a glamour about new york and it never seems to fade. living there meant a lot of drudgery, trudging the streets with the days ending in utter exhaustion. but now it doesn’t have to be that way. things are different, i’m a visitor! it would be great to get my head out of the way i used to see it and hit that reset button. maybe we could go to the theater?

or dip in and out of the chill to see some of the buildings that are usually passed by with no time to explore. hit the met and the frick…and stay awhile!

new york was home for decades, now it seems so far away but as much as it changes every year, it stays the same in so many ways. we all just come through it and leave our own mark.

when i left it was because i was having a love/hate affair with the city. love that it was a never-ending source of surprise and delight. hate because there never seeemed to be any downtime to replenish and recharge.

i admire cities like new york, san fran, paris which were built so well, so beautifully functional, big worlds in (relatively) tiny spaces. it’s time to explore and not fight it. i’m hoping to take on the city to the fullest extent of the law!
it’s not like i’ll be shoveling snow any more! (one of the reasons i left was digging out my car each winter)

i love to think of the nyc’s past and those who put that first glittering stamp on it. it’s one of the reasons i fell in love and stayed under her spell for so long. despite the difficulties of winter and the work, work, work mentality, there is still a shine i always try to find in my search for a bit of old mixed in with the new.

i’ll bring my real camera everywhere and look for those magical moments when time stands still.

fashion, cities, people, we all change. yet a city like new york remains unchanged in so many ways despite the hardships she’s weathered. something to ponder and a city to treasure. and it’s nice to know some things stay the same no matter the year, time or place. have a spectacular weekend!
