well read

wow, two days in a row, that’s got to be a record. hey guys, thanks for coming by yesterday. it was so nice to read your comments and hear from you. every day brings something new, doesn’t it?

i’m stopping by to jot down some notes and keep what’s happening fresh and in the forefront.

today i’m be focusing on a part of my site that anyone can implement on their site and each will be completely unique.

it’s the joy of using ‘amazon affiliates’, specifically today, the ‘astore.

have you heard of it?

you can choose products from amazon to curate your favorite products and recommendations.

when someone goes to amazon from your site you get a referral which is really nice. (especially for someone like me who is making wishlists on there anyway!)

i got kind of caught up in it last night, focusing mainly on books and that was just the tip of the iceberg since it’s the ultimate rabbit hole.

here’s the one i’m putting together: astore.amazon.com/theparisapart-20. (it just went live)

as i was going through all the fascinating and swoon worthy books i realized they’re not in the right categories so i’ll go back now and organize them.

anyway it’s one way that i’m focusing on using affiliates on the site. as we grow and design this new site i want to share with you some of the ways i’ll be monetizing and modernizing it.

my other goal and passion is to collaborate with like minded people, someone, like, say… kathie from australia who was here yesterday and said she’d like to work together!

her gorgeous website and products are here: frenchcargo.com.au

i want one of everything she has, how about you? kathie, let’s talk! Ok, that’s it for me today, off to organize those books. have a great night!

oh PS just figured since this post was about books, why not do a giveaway with my own book?

we’ll draw two random commenters in the next post. ok, a tout alors!

It’s been a long time coming

allo mes amis! it’s been way too long since i’ve pulled up this dashboard. but here we are and that’s what counts, right, showing up? the blog has always been sort of an escape, a refuge from the rest of the net and a place to hear my own thoughts and even create sometimes, even using others’ images to make stories and get inspiration. it’s truly a log,  kind of a diary that’s always there, patiently waiting until creativity or motivation struck. soooo, while i’m motivated, just want to say hi and check in. it’s been about a year of transition and as of today i’ll be setting goals (aka dreams with deadlines). so without further ado here are some of what i’ve been working on and i’d love to hear your thoughts!

website, phase 1: this has been a major project over the past year that was developing slowly in my few spare minutes a day. now i’ll be kicking it into high gear. it is by no means ‘ready’ and certainly is not stocked but that’s phase 2 which i’ll tell you all about in the next post. the main thing was just going live and you can check it out at theparisapartment.com. i’d love any feedback from typos to glitches, navigation or just overall ease of use. i’ll look at yours too if you want a fresh eye. this new phase is all about collaboration which brings me to the next topic.

products: i’ve been sourcing paris and the flea markets of the world for as long as i can remember. when i started the paris apartment, it was a store and filled with all sorts of pretty, feminine boudoir accessories. i still love all those things but without the store just don’t have a lot on hand other than my own personal stash of powder puffs and poufs. in fact, i’d say i’m becoming a bit of a minimalist so that’s a tricky juxtaposition. so what’s the solution? more online reciprocity. during the course of re-doing the site, i saw that the domain was created 19 years ago. there’s been lots of technological advancement and trends that have come and gone. i want something different. and in this new era, i’d like the site to have vision and purpose. again, more on this soon as it’s developing into a sort of template, but i’ll be sharing as i learn as it deals with affiliates, influencers and alliances, and lots of things we can do together if you’re working on your business too.

minimalism: finally, all roads seem to lead here. i’ve come to appreciate the importance of loving the few, cherished things that live with me.  honing every aspect of my life from the utility closets, to under the sink, in cabinets, what’s on display, the collections of books, plants and even silverware is something that’s ongoing. it’s not about losing anything, it’s about curating and enjoying the things that are useful, beautiful and inspirational.

well that at least catches us up a little. now that i’m here it seems like there’s so much more to cover but we’ll leave some for later. for now, i hope all is well with you and if you’re here let me know! xxoo

i’m in the mood

img_6472-copy

for a moodboard, that is! hi guys, how are you on this mid-december night? i’m surprising myself by coming to blog tonight.

images-24

it seems like forever since i’ve had the urge to write about what’s been going on. as you may remember, i’m designing a chair line in high point, nc for the gang at Desirant. i guess i’ve been laying low cause it has a lot of moving parts and it hasn’t felt like they were coming together until today. but whatdda ya know, here i am, feeling like i almost have it figured out. almost.

it’s been tricky trying to work with someone else’s taste when i’ve always had the luxury of going my own way. the paris apartment’s always been so much fun cause i could use girly colors and fabrics and trims to make things i’d want to have myself. these trim swatches below didn’t make the cut but i just wanted a piece to take with me. guess i’ll always be a sucker for vintage trim that looks like icing on a cake, silk velvet ribbon and celadon green…anything!

anyway this new line is still everything i’d want myself, only the palette is more neutral. the flavor comes in the form of  texture, color and pattern.

first of all we’re starting with hand finished frames using traditional patinas, colors and techniques.

the variety of tacks alone is a rabbit hole. combine it with using 3-4 fabrics, trim and paint and each piece gets pretty involved. and now’s the time to put it all together. i’m heading to high point this week to get to work.  in the meantime i’m creating work order sheets and preparing pics for the website so buyers can customize.

i probably shouldn’t share these before they’re finished.but i know we all enjoy the process and we’re all good friends here. plus i know you won’t judge me lol

i’m not saying these are set in stone but as aforementioned, each chair will have at least 3 fabric elements. a leather, a velvet or faux fur and  pattern.

img_6476

not going too girly but the fluffy stuff will go on the chairs with frills,

and i’m trying out some of the same fabric on a more masculine chairs without so many curls. but all the frames are traditional french.

anyway these were some of the swatches i have at home. most are at the warehouse in HP already and i’ll see what it all really looks like together when i get there.

i’ll keep updating the progress. it seems like it helps when i blog actually

i guess i should mention that desirant is in asheville, nc and they’re very earthy. they like things woodsy and natural.img_0354.

so anyway that’s my story for tonight.
