fleaing to france in phoenix

hello dear friends, it’s been a while! i hope you’re enjoying your autumn. i’ve been running around and haven’t had ”the time” till right now to write about a wonderful trip i took to phoenix last weekend for a book signing.

i had no idea what to expect from the ladies of Sweet Salvage. just that kim, heather and stephanie were handling everything and we’d head straight to the warehouse in the morning. robert would pick me up and make sure i was delivered safe and sound. well, these gals (and robert, along with the rest of their crew) blew my mind with what they had going on behind the closed doors. before we even walked in there was a line around the block with shoppers who wait for this particular event. in fact, this sale is legend n these parts! and it was worth the wait. walking inside it was pure magic! i had never heard of their concept: it’s an ‘occassional sale” that pops up for just four days each month and focuses on a specific theme. this one (of course) was ‘french inspired’. the 12 vendors have full reign to interpret it and they took it to the limit. they’re each master artists of display and all have a flair for curating collections with both large industrial pieces as well as accents, down to every minute detail. the quality and quantity of french goodies made me feel like i was at the marche aux puces en Paris and boy was that a wonderful surprise! it was true soul food digging around for ephemera, souvenirs, art and furniture. turns out arizona is a rich pocket full of antiques. it’s bordered by four states and these guys know where to get the goods. the entire place was set up like a dream and torn apart by the afternoon by hungry buyers. they had this gorgeous room set up for me (above and below) and i couldn’t stop taking pics all day watching it go piece by piece. (i did get the statue in the first shot)! i can’t find my camera’s memory card but luckily the talented photographer, heather gill was there to capture it all. i hoped to blog about it in real time but haven’t seemed to master my time management yet. so i hope you enjoy the tour and although this one has closed, they’re already preparing a special holiday event in the next couple weeks. check their calendar to see what’s coming up on facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/Sweet.Salvage
