in spare moments i’ve been collecting shots of the soon to be redecorated (the interior NOT the exterior) hotel de crillon in paris. i’m stashing way too much but thought you may enjoy a little of the edited collection. some of the links to the photos are at the bottom of the post. if any are yours please let me know.

the grand hotel has been on my mind since richard mentioned on his blog that it was going to be ‘redecorated’ over the next two years (not torn down). some of the contents will be sold at auction next week to make room for improvements.

here’s the link to the items on the auction block: artcurial.com/en

Random Facts:

The Hotel de Crillon in Paris is one of two identical stone palaces on the Place de la Concorde, wich was constructed in 1758.

In 1788 the Count of Crillon, acquired the building for a hotel.

Address: 10 place de la Concorde, 08 Arr., Paris, Ile-de-France, 75008, France

hi again! just thought i’d share some of what’s for sale in the hotel. i may be over reacting (someone wrote and called me a drama queen),  but i just don’t get why you have to take out the orignal and traditional in the process? like these fireplaces, why are they being removed? why aren’t they worth preserving?

Claudia, this makes me sick! They aren’t demolishing the building too, are they? Just a major remodel, one hopes? I’m with you — once places like this are gone, there’s no getting them back again. :-(

hi peggy, i may try to do that.
as for the hotel, only a remodel is an understatement. anything they take out that’s an original light fixture should be revered. i’m sorry i truly believe that. why not remodel versailles? what could be better than what the original designers put in?
i imagine the new desingers brainstorming, lamenting between the sleekness of ikea and freshness of restoration hardware for the reincarnation!

Hi Claudia and thanks for all the beautiful photos.

That’s really sad news. I hope they’ll just get rid of a few items and redecorate in the same style, just with new materials. I agree with you on the drapes and bedding…but the chandeliers?! I wish I could fly back and buy a couple of them (for my small NYC apartment…lol)

This is horrible news. I guarantee it’s going to be ruined. Every singe time there’s a remodel of a hotel, they bring in contemporary furnishings, which I love in the right setting, but NOT in an iconic, traditional hotel. One of my favorite hotels in the world, the Hotel Bel Air, in Los Angeles, has had such a terrible renovation that it brought tears to my eyes.

I agree – why remove the vintage, beautiful furnishings – fireplaces too? It’s a shame!

‘Tis a pity. And no, you’re not being a drama queen. I wondered the same thing about the fireplaces. BTW was this fun, flirty video filmed there? The front desk looks the same. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHh5K9_wzZw

I am with you on this. We need more people to speak up for these places and give them the honor they deserve. It’s an absolute crime to remove these items from their historic settings.
