I start my day with an ENORMOUS glass of water. It fills me up a un petit peu so that I don’t go crazy with breakfast hunger. Then my dog forces me to go out. “let’s go out! let’s go out! ruff! ruff! RUFF!” Even if you don’t have a dog you need that inner puppy urging you outside every morning. Have a FABULOUS DAY!

Exercise and making more concerted efforts in food choices works for me. I support you in your goal, and wish you full on cheerleading. It’s funny how weight and shape creep up on us when we are so preoccupied with work. Wish the multi-tasking would’nt take such a toll on our beauty regimen, but it does (sometimes and most times). It’s a small stretch to summer, and this is when it hits us hard.

I’m on the Flat Belly Diet, so I ate the prescribed breakfast for Day 3. It was composed of 1 cup unsweetened corn flakes with 1 cup unsweetened Almond milk, 1/4 cup of pineapple and a 1/4 sunflower seeds. I “cheated” and drank 1 cup of coffee with the leftover milk. That was topped off with lots of water. I’m trying to get ready for the summer and the dreaded bathing suit.

why is coffee cheating? or is it the milk that’s bad?

Coffee is supposed to be bloating, but I can’t live without one cup of black coffee in the morning. My other cheats have included adding Dijon mustard, balsamic and well-drained capers to otherwise plain tuna (I couldn’t bear the taste otherwise), using Splenda in my Earl Grey tea (both tea and sweetener prohibited) and consuming 1/4 of an avocado last night with my grilled chicken breast and sauteed zucchini. I would be too miserable without these little slip-ups. Diets make me cranky.

I put on a bathing suit for the first time this year and yep! It’s time to change my ways! Breakfast, I find easy -cottage cheese and fresh berries or a smoothie with fresh fruit and Greek yogurt. It’s the afternoon, when I want wine and a cheese board that derails me! I figured out a vitamin combo a couple of years ago that really killed the hunger and gave me the energy to do some circuit training at the house 3x/wk. It only took about 20 minutes and i was able to lose 10 pounds in about 6 weeks. If you’re interested I will find my list and send it to you.

When I turned 50 I found that I could not loose a pound for the life of me. Over the years I’d packed on an extra 40 pounds and it was just not a good look! I tried everything but between the age and the hormones I just kept gaining. During the whole Royal Wedding Hub Bub I saw where Kate and her mother had been on the Dukan Diet and lost weight quickly so I went out and got the book.

I swear the pounds fell off. I’ve lost 45 pounds so far. I haven’t regained the weight like I usually do and if I do see a few pounds come back I just get back on the diet for a week or so. It’s been easy and I’ve been successful with it. All my friends that I’ve told about it have lost on the diet also. The best part was that a lot of the weight that came off was from my horrible middle where I’ve never had weight before the age of 50. That was the greatest! And it does not restrict diet soda or coffee as long as you get your water in. I’ve learned to crave fat free Greek yogurt and fat free cottage cheese. Egg white omelets, veggies and low fat protein are all included.

This will be my life long go to diet!!

My breakfast is bigger than other two: muffins, sausages, eggs, sweets, rice..etc. i have whatever i crave for but focus on the quantities and time. I used to suck all the food like a triple strength vacuum cleaner: fast and alot but now i try to eat slow and smaller amount. One more thing, i eat 5-6 times a day, non-stop eatter but still keep the quantity small.

I used to cut the sweets or butter or carb to loose weight but don’t do it anymore since i found it just gives more stress and yo-yo effect.

    Good luck and I l

HMMM!!!! I have been trying to get rid of 10 pounds for about a year now. My method? Sheer willpower, by which I mean that I have tried staring down the belly pudge, refusing to admit that it’s there, trying to scare the belly away by making angry, intimidating faces at it in the mirror… It ain’t workin’! Seriously, though — I’ve always been a healthy eater, I don’t pack away cartons of ice creams or chips in front of the TV at night, and I have actually been exercising for the past 4 months or so. But my metabolism has changed, and everything has redistributed slightly due to gravity, pissing off the gods, who knows what. It’s frustrating.

Bathing suits? I’ve always hated bathing suits. I say, bring back the bathing costumes of the roaring ‘twenties! Just not in wool, please.

Good luck with your diet! If you solve the Muffin Top Malady, please share your secrets with the rest of us!

BUT i am not having the coffee and milk today to see if that helps (or the muffin). just had a big glass of water (have to get some lemon) and after the bloat goes down (even water)!? will see from there.

I follow the sonoma diet. It allows for wine and coffee, two things I’d die without. Still, diet alone isn’t enough. Try adding weight lifting to your workout. It’s true that muscle uses more calories than fat.

I am now on the paleo diet due to food allergies which were keeping me fat. I’ve dropped 25lbs on this diet but I have just decided to start working out with it too. Once a week per the, The Power of 10 book I just bought. Good luck!

Don’t eat a bran muffin for breakfast unless you bake the low fat type yourself. According to some studies there is less fat and calories in a chocolate cream donuts.

I’ve tried every diet around, low fat, low carb, weight watchers… and always I was depriving myself. Now I have a piece of really good dark chocolate with my coffee. I use 5% cream and 1 sugar – but I only have 1 cup a day.

Exercise and smaller portions. You’ll lose the weight slowly, but you’ll still be happy!

I was always sooo thin with a high metabolism. I think that was due to the severe chronic anemia I had. Twenty pounds ago I thought I was too heavy. I just got out my Marilu Henner book(her first one) and am ready to start! She says the best thing for her was to cut out dairy (I have seen her on a couple o tv shows lately, hawking her new book).
For cravings – I have read that either of these is good for cravings:
    Chromium (polynicotinate) (1000mcg/day)
    L-Glutamine — 4000 – 5000 mg x 3 between meals along with B6 1000mg

Keep on keeping on, Claudia! Me too.

    Hi Claudia,
Lately, I’ve been cutting up fresh fruit for breakfast; a baby jazz apple;a navel orange and pineapple. Sometimes, when I’m in the mood for juice, I’ll juice the same combination. It’s surprising how filling either one can be.

Hi There. Love this page, pics are gorgeous. Just found out I have a part in a play of a skinny hippy teenager. I am none of the above! I’ve ordered a weekly “veg box” from a local farm. All organic fresh ingredients and having it delivered to my door makes me use it. Had gnocci with fresh tomato sauce, salad with fresh onions, radishes, apple and some balsamic vinegar and made a vat of the most delish low fat veg soup to snack on. Only 2 days in and bloating gone. Also cut down milk by having black coffee. Good luck, I’m right along side ya xxx

I have the diet guaranteed to lose weight!!!!
breakfast: half tub full fat yoghurt
    Lunch: 1 banana
    Dinner: i hard boiled egg
Off course it helps if you find it difficult to eat even these and it probably would have helped if I had taken in some fluid too but at the end of five months when my clothes fell off me I realised I had lost 26 Kilos or 57 pounds!!!!
I do not recommend it but it worked and my stomach shrank so much that now I have a small meal three times a day and as food becomes more interesting I am even eating fattening things without putting on any weight!!!!
Of course I was seriously dehydrated and have done some damage which we are slowly reversing…and no I was not anorexic I just lost my husband and the ability to swallow!!!!

I’m going through the same process too and trying to eat cleaner, and enjoying a more plant based diet. Eating more mindfully too. It has really helped to cut my cravings for sweet and carbs by starting my day with a healthy green smoothie. I just finished the book Clean by Dr. Alejandro Junger too which was fascinating and really encouraging! Now, I’m trying to motivate myself to try and exercise more, and enlisting friends to help. I love walking but need to step it up and gain some muscle tone. Good luck!
