not in the mood

hi guys! i hope you had a great weekend. i tackled an overflowing inbox and it sapped pretty much all my energy and put me in a funk i haven’t quite shaken. i’m hoping my attitude will be less like this above

and more like this by morning!so we all know the best way to break a mood is to do a little soul surfing on the web. i ran across photog frank horvat’s work in san fran and fell in love with his odd slices of life. i often wonder how the old photographers were able  to capture such incredible moments with crude equipment and one shot at the shot. the quote on his website hit home with ‘photography is the art of not pushing the button’.

such random settings! i love this one below shot at les halles.

so i’m getting ready for another trip to gay paree, this time for the maison et objet and shopping the fleas with clients.  while i’m there i hope to work on a project about renting real apartments in paris and will be staying with paris perfect.

it’s a great company, owned by a wonderful couple (she’s american, he’s french). i’m not sure which apartment we’re in yet but each has a view of the eiffel tower so that’s a pretty good start. friends of mine are coming too so it will be a fun slumber party with my college roomie, mb, (her hubs surprised her with a ticket for her birthday and it’s her first time in paris! i want to be a good hostess and show her the sights but hope my sights are the ones she wants to see too. luckily she’s into good food and cooking so we’ll no doubt hit the food markets and blow her mind. what do you think is crucial? i’m biased)!

my other girl, linda of parisien salon is coming too and the two of them have wicked senses of humor so it’s going to be a laugh fest if nothing else.

i’ve toured madelyn’s apartments before and they’re all beautifully decorated and have good hi tech gadgets.

i’ll be there from the 1-9th, if you are too, let me know, i’ll be meeting up with other bloggers for a couple fun events and would  love to rendezvous with you too!

ok well, this is apparently a fantastic tv night so off i go for an evening of guilty pleasures. i’m putting down the computer and going to do nothing but channel surfing for the rest of the night. have a good one too!

I think a night tour on the Bateau Mouches is hard to beat-seeing Paris lit up from a different angle. It’s really special.

  5. Bardot in Blue replied:

    hey there!

Love the frank horvot photos…I too have been in one of those moods and trying to get out of it! Mine is mostly due to french bureaucracy GR…happy you hear you are making another trip to paris soon! It would be a pleasure to run in to working your magic at on of the puces! How lucky to stay with Paris Perfect!

So sorry it took me so long to return your question about my camera too! I use a Canon500D and it is super! I recommend it to everyone easy to use, makes you look like a pro in automatic settings, but if you wanna play and learn a bit about photography you can customize everything.

xoxo Haleigh @ Bardot in Blue

  6. theparisapartment replied:

Oh i will definitely check out that camera (even tho i just got the olympus pen). i’m obsessed with different cameras and all they can do! i’d love to rendezvous in paris!

  7. Jean replied:

For a first-time visitor to Paris, she’ll have to hit at least some of the big touristy sights, although I’m sure she’ll get to see lots more interesting things with you. One of my favorite tourist sights is Sainte-Chapelle on the Ile de la Cite. So beautiful, and it is small, so doesn’t take long to see. And I think you can get a combo ticket with Sainte Chapelle and the Conciergerie right next door which was used as a prison during the Reign of Terror. You can see Marie Antoinette’s prison cell! It is pretty amazing to see Versailles, and then see the Conciergerie.

    • theparisapartment replied:

fascinating! i love the ile de la cite but have never been to sainte-chapelle. i’ll definitely put this on the list. how bizarre that marie a’s prison cell is there!

  8. Kate replied:

Just got back from a month in France – 3 weeks in Paris. Essentials for first timers? 1) Pick one high scenic vista: Notre Dame, Eifel Tower, or Arch de Triomph. 2) Galeries Lafayette. 3) Piscine Pontoice for swimming. 4) Train Bleu for tea at Gare de Lyon. 5) Pompidou for modern art. 6) D’orsay or L’orangerie for Impressionism. Skip the Louve. 7) Albert Khan Garden 8) Parc de Bercy and Biblioteque Mitterand 9) Hammam at Grand Mosque 10) Drinks on Rue de Lappe in Bastille 11) Market Aligre in 12th 12) Musee Jacquemart Andrea 13) gelato at Amorinos 14) falafel at L’as Du Falafel. Have a great time!

  9. theparisapartment replied:

wow, thanks kate! i have to say that i’ve never been to most of these places (except #11 and #12 which i AdOre)!
i’ll check out all of these and see what intrigues her. i’ve always wanted to see train bleu and some of the gardens. thanks for this amazing list!

  10. Scentsy Candles replied:

How fun to be planning a trip to Paris! I loved the Musee D’Orsay when I was there. I bought a huge gorgeous print of Monet’s “Irises in Monet’s Garden”. It hangs in my living room and makes me happy to sit and stare at it on cold winter mornings when I wish it were springtime.

I only spent 2 days in Paris before heading to Italy, but I loved it and long to go back!

  11. Charlie Jackson replied:

Paris is definitely one of the best cities in the world! My dad was born there, but I have yet to visit!! I am jealous of anyone who has gone or even better who lives there :D
