being there now

aDSC01592

hi guys! i hope you’re doing well on these balmy summer nights. a lot’s been going on but mostly i’m trying to just unwind from all the shows, traveling and moving around. for the first time in longer than i can remember, i don’t have to go anywhere, do anything, plan a trip for at least 90 days. seeing that much open space in my future is making me think about how to spend the time.

anyway, it’s been a couple days and the ol’ florida home design and remodeling show has come and gone, but i did promise a post so i’m sticking to my word. as you may know, it was the exact days as the maison objet so i just took a deep breath and went in, determined to appreciate where i was instead of wasn’t. i guess i had low expectations, but was surprised that it was both informative and had a little bit of flavor here and there.

this booth was probably the only of its kind, a furniture company with some pretty pieces. i fell in love with this big white lacquer table.

i think what surprised me most was that i was drawn to the stands that had solutions for greening a home. this guy was so passionate about green roofs that it was contagious.

and i had no idea that concrete was such a pollutant and that there are solutions.

aDSC01616

there were quite a few really pretty accent pieces

and every show represents its townspeople’s needs

i died for this slab!

and was inspired by the enormous amount of work some of the vendors shared.

it wasn’t huge but i did get my fill.

and discovered some great resources like the company above.

best and most ironic of all, they were giving away florida design magazine. today i happened to flip through it and saw this image from the maison objet. i guess i didn’t miss much. yeah right!

but that was a valuable lesson learned. buy tickets early to all events you know you want to do (holidays, shows, etc). that way you have no excuse but to go. i just bought my ticket home for christmas and next is the show in january. hope to see you there!

ps i was about to get back to work but just heard from trish and had to share a little of her blog, it’s the inspiration i was craving!

Hi Claudia. Like the white table also…almost Astier-ish. GUESS what I just got today? My very own SIGNED edition of your FABULOUS book. I’ve read it through once…and am going back a second time. Do you mind if I mini-book review you and add a few pictures? When are you coming out with your next tome? You’ve just confirmed for me what I’m going to do with a pair of 8 ft tall wood columns I’ve had lying about outside for months (orig. 10 ft, rotted at the bottom, got them for free). I’m bringin im in (back photo your book)! Thanks mucho, again. Trish

That white lacquere table is sensational – just like you!!! I enjoyed this post and can so understand the sentiment about appreciating where you are… When I miss living in Paris full time, when Berlin seems rainy-er or more gray than I ever I remember Paris being, I remember that song, “If you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with!!!”

Such truth and wisdom is one of the keys to the happiness of life. You continue to inspire me Claudia – You rock!

Wow, I love your blog, but I really think you should change the color of your blog titles. They’re kind of hard to find because the posts are so long. I kind of have a habit of scrolling right over them :o

thanks so much for checking in and the compliment. i appreciate the constructive criticism too.
i’ll look into changing the post titles or maybe making them larger. my format is just a template so i don’t have a lot of flexibility but will see if my web gal can fix that.
thanks for your input, i really appreciate it!

Congratulations on your new green venture, Shopping At The Green Light! You hit a home run on your first time out and blew a big hole in political correctness. The “good intentions” of governments always achieve the opposite result but you really butt-kicked this one. We look forward to upcoming blogs.
