thank god i did that

simpletech.com

my laptop had been fritzing out lately so i got this external hard drive to back everything up. i was always worried about it but hated putting it on cds. this was so easy, there’s not even an instruction manual. just plug it in the usb and go. last year i lost all my paris 2005-6 trip pictures. yes, my pixel pix vanished into the ether with a hard drive i couldn’t recover. i was hearbroken, and didn’t want it to happen again, so doing this saved me in the nick of time. i have 19,000 + pics, who knew?

i found this while i was seaching simple tech’s site and besides being a cutie, it mod and green. oh, and a real lifesaver!

Oh, geez. I know all about comuter crashes. First computer I ever had, back in the mid 90’s when back up drives were not heard of for the general public yet, my computer started to smoke one day and it was all over. The first 4 children’s books I wrote were on it! I cried for a month. They were gone from my brain as well. I could never really rewrite them. This is a GOOD wake up call for me. Here I am at my not-backed-up computer that holds the first 40 pages of a book I am thinking about, sort of maybe writing. Thank you! *runs to find blank cd’s*

Oh my… I have been recovering from computer problems too. My Apple Powerbook G4 Laptop computer crashed a few times last year and ultimately I had to get a new hard drive installed this past June. I didn’t think anything ever happened to MAC’s! Surprise! I lost everything and had to rebuild my files from what I had backed up on CD’s over the years… and discovered two years were missing. My computer is working now but it seems to get hot a lot. It didn’t do that before. I know I need to get a better back up system like you did too.

MAC Enthusiasts in Los Angeles fixed my computer and they were able to recover some files after my biggest crash. More could have been recovered had I sought a specialist, but it can be very expensive.

Do you have a MAC? I am going to look into your backup recommendations.

I greatly appreciate your technology post as its part of what holds our creative work and friendships together.

THANK-YOU Claudia for this post!!! I was just telling someone the other day “What would I do if my computer crashed?” I would be royally screwed but I have been hesitant to go out and buy a back-up system for fear of the unknown really. I am going to check these out!

p.s. Hope you had a *sunny* day today!

    Hugs,
    Joy

I have everything on a little tiny flash drive- you know one of those stick things. It was under 10 bucks and it works like a charm ;)

So often looking at your blog cheers me on, so I was hoping to return the favor. I came across this quote yesterday by Joseph Campbell: “People say that what we’re all seeking is a meaning for life. I don’t think that’s what we’re really seeking. I think that what we’re seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonance within our innermost being and realty, so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive.” Too deep? Maybe, but here’s to the rapture of being alive xo

I’m always so lazy when it comes to backing up computers, I’ve lost 3 so far, and countless amounts of itunes $$. Sigh, I still haven’t learnt my lesson!

maybe if the drives were prettier or sparkly or monogramed, then we’d do it! but why, why, why, do laptops have to die?
