good morning everyone! i hope your weekend was peaceful, restful and productive even if that meant enjoying some down time. that’s exactly what it was for me. for the first time in the past couple months it’s not about deadlines, obligations, and averting crisises.

taking another look
Happy weekend everyone! i hope you pack a lot of fun into that extra hour we all get tomorrow! our OKL sale is up this morning and i’m shooting some of my faves one last time while i’ve got the chance. everything seems different once i know they may leave my life! these ladies have been hanging in my boudoir for the past few weeks. the strawberry blond reminds me me of my niece and her pretty red hair.
i’m leafing through the old magazines and ephemera again and am coming across such sweet images
have we changed so much?
one of the most fun articles is on observing ways people hold everthing from their hands to their smokes to their purses!
we’re looking at the engravings and paintings as they hang for one final day. this is one of my favorites. it’s a split screen image of a wall for a chateau. hard to believe people drew all these designs by hand.
they decorated every inch and nook and cranny to create alcoves and cover walls, ceilings and doors. as always i wonder, where did the ideas come from?
well i’ll ponder that later. for now we’re off to get some breakfast. have a beautiful day!
the life of a bon vivant
good morning guys and happy friday, i hope your day is already off to a good start. the time has come to start packing up so much of what i’ve taken for granted all these months. funny how you think you have all the time in the world to read books, shoot photos and live a life of leisure at least a little. oh to live the life of a bon vivant!
going through all the things for the sale tomorrow i’m in the middle of all the books that haven’t been read and the shots that haven’t been taken. in the dim morning light i’m doing my best to capture any little bit i can of the goodies around the house. modes and manners is one is a set of books (in english)! about the ways of the women of the past centuries. the books detail everything from the reverence they had for daily life from their stoves to their beds, the appreciation that was shown for the smallest convenience how ordinary washing or cleaning became a sacred (not necessarily religious) daily ritual.
this morning i opened a random page that discussed the various ways scarves were used. they said it was not just for warmth but was also meant to shape and drape the body. still so french! i wish i had the time to read it all!
another of my favorites that will be going is this little sketchbook i found in paris. it’s filled with an artist’s pencil sketches and watercolors of life on the streets in the 20s. his attention to detail with the flowing fabric and poses makes me wonder if all the romanticizing we do about the past really may have been reality.
even the simplest sketch of a woman waiting for a bus or train captured the era.
he was also drawing jewelry, maybe he was a designer or just a student of life…
i could go on an on about every little thing but it’s already getting late. before it comes off the wall i had to shoot my personal obsession which is the home of the original salon hostess, madame rambouillet. she was the first to rebel against social convention and create the salon bleu where moliere and other poets and artists would gather around her bed to paint, put on plays and discuss literature.
for the first time women had a place they could go to become more than property and they began re-inventing society in their image, creating one that rebeled against the filth and barbaric ways of the streets and provided a refuge where they could be be oh so proper and speak with grace and flair.
unfortunately they eventually became ridiculed by moliere and he wrote his famous ‘Precieuses Ridicules’ which is still a popular play today depicting the women as silly and trivial, saying that they took it too far and became a bit of a joke.
in any case it’s all flashing before me and i want to take it all in but it’s time i guess to send it all out into the world. i’m going to keep shooting between boxing and bagging and will share some more as i do. hope you have a great day and wonderful weekend. the party starts at 8am on OKL, hope you can come by!
never can say goodbye
good morning dear friends! i have to apologize for dropping off the face of the earth for the past few days (or was it weeks)? it’s been a long road but one that’s been fun and furiously fast paced. in fact the pace has caught up with us and the project we’ve been planning has finally taken shape and is about to launch this weekend!
my crew of companions who’ve helped get thru it are all staying for the next few days to embark on a giant slumber/packing party. claudia ii, candy and ellen are here to put the final touches and tweaks on it all. it’s been months in the making…and tada…our brand new OKL sale is launching this weekend! the busy work is done. the container arrived from paris, chairs have been restored and re-upholstered in silk satin, pictures are framed and matted and accessories have been painstakingly cleaned with toothbrushes and tarnx. now t’s almost time to say goodbye but it feels like everything just got here!
maybe i get too attached but i’m loving living with it at home. i feel like my apartment is a living, breathing manifistation of the work we’ve done. and now i’m holding onto it for dear life, trying to take it all in. i’m torn between being a collector and curator and want to relish each piece one last time before this day gets started and it gets packed and stashed for the sale. oh but it sounds like everyone is starting to stir so these are my last few moments of quiet perfection before the chaos starts.
i’m glad you came by and promise to keep you posted! we tried to make it vast and varied with something in every range for everyone so i hope you enjoy it! the sale will be from march 9-11 and starts bright and early on saturday morning.
by the by, the new book is heading into a second printing! there are still some first editions available amazon (if i promised you a book in the giveaway i’m still going to send it out) but otherwise there will be signed first editions on the sale.
ok, the girls are up and i smell coffee. more soon!

around every corner
hello and happy sunday guys! hope you’re winding down a great weekend. it’s been a day of rest around here and that was both needed, good and lazy. best of all i had time to surf and started looking through the day’s loot. you never know what you collected till the end of the session and see it all together.
there was so much pretty stuff i pretended to make a little apartment for myself.

good morning gang! how’s your week going so far? we’re running around getting ready for a photo shoot on friday and monday.
in the meantime we’ve got to shoot at home a little but even though it’s filled with pretty things it’s sort of hard for me to capture what i want in my own place.

fortunately there’s an endless source of inspiration out there! i think you know where i go by now but if not…it’s pinterest! i’m studying the creativity of the settings combined with the science of photography and hopefully will come up with some good images of my own today.

hi guys happy sunday! i hope you had a great weekend and are about to embark on a nice long night. we’ve been busy running around all week and today was a relaxing respite. i cracked my laptop lid for the first time in what seems like an eternity just now. instead of surfing around i’m stopping on the very first bit of beauty in my inbox. i can’t keep this photographer’s work a secret since her images of paris are so bright and cheerful and getting her newsletter is completely inspiring. hope you enjoy her work too! well, i’m off to squeeze in a little more downtime, have a great night!
a veritable who’s who
hi guys, how’s every little thing? i hope your week is off to a good start. it’s been jam packed since i got back and it’s more of the same for the forseeable future. at least till march anyway. so i thought i’d better make the time to steal if i ever wanted to get back here. i needed a couple days to recalibrate, get a dose of new inspiration and a fresh perspective. there is but one place i can consistently find all that and more and it’s not pinterest. it’s on the pages of my very own blog. the comments and the links from my blog friends never cease to amaze me. tonight i had the luxury of time to scroll through them and visit each incredible site on the last post. i know you’ll enjoy their wonderful worlds of beauty and passion!
