the flowerbox project
hey friends, ca va? i’m back to my american life (i.e. more to recycle and a trip to the mall for starters. and a bit thicker)! but i’m determined to go through these pics and not lose momentum from the trip. i’m still on the first folder with these!

i was dying to see flowers in the balconies but they really they were few and far between. i wanted to stage it all! don’t flowers add so much to city life? it creates both green and gorgeous in an instant. do you have an apartment that faces the street and do you have flowers? can ny challenge paris to a flower contest or something?
when i did see them of course it was magic, even the slightest effort.
the flower market at the il de la cite metro stop has inexpensive flowers and trees. so does union square.
anyway back to this never ending folder
bord et scene, 8 rue gregoire de tours had gorgeous things
i can’t believe how much i just skimmed over cause i was always on the go. anyway i’m going to try to head back in august and september to shoot some apts for the book and hit the maison et objet.
yveline is a must see antiques store at 4 rue de furstemberg in the 6e. we met niloufar, who runs this playfully eccentric shop in the middle of a fairly fussy area.
she said she finds these mannequins in different positions each day. everything is super special
sort of. anyway it’s a collection that’s curated like a museum
they faux painted that ceiling.
the briefcase just beyond the ottoman is a vintage ysl leather pinstripe. and the vanity they had! my god i do go on!
these were in a gallery down the street
since i was looking for art for erica’s
geez these are random shops! this is the great little perfume store at the top of montmartre. i didn’t get to go in tho, no time! ; (
that’s not going to happen again though, i learned my lesson. i tried to rush and ended up stressed to accomplish so much. and paris proved she will not be be rushed.
anyway, if you can believe it, i could go on and on with these places you just happen by day after day.
books are all along the seine. i know we share that love and paris really is the place to enjoy them.
what can i say. no matter how many times i’ve visited paris i’ve only skimmed the surface. these markets are still on my to do list:
book market at Parc George Brassens
ok! c’est ça and so to bed!

Drooling all over my keyboard here! Paris sounds like the most amazing city. I don’t think it would do to visit for a day or two. I’m going to need at least a month for my first visit!
Thanks for sharing your gorgeous pics… can’t wait for your next book ;)

About the (lack of) flowers. I live in Paris and have always bemoaned the lack of fleurs on balconies, doorsteps, etc. Italian cities have tons of flowers, and many flowers bloom year-round in Paris (my red geraniums do). I find it interesting that my neighbors have commented on the flowers in my window boxes and have even thanked me for having them — yet they don’t put any on of their own out! I have theories about their aversion to home improvement, but it’s too big of a subject to go into here. Suffice to say, I think NYC will win the flower-off. I’ll be in NYC next week, so I’ll take note of the flower situation then. Thanks for posting this! — Julie, Foreign Parts, http://foreignparts.typepad.com.

oh, i just got VERY excited and happy at the idea of a flower box faceoff between NYC and Paris! Although, I think some other cities (San Fran?) might be just as good too! I do LOVE the way they inject a little freshness into the city life!

One of the many reasons I love London so much… all the flower boxes at the windows.
Love them so much…that I have 10 around the windows of my house and studio!
