a wing and a prayer

i’m taking my mind off the AD show for a sec and going thru some of the great web stuff i’ve come across yesterday and today. who knew that abc carpet was so on it environmentally? i love that they will totally solarize your home: www.abcrealgoodssolar.com

abcsolar.jpg

or you can just peruse the site for beauty and inspiration at www.abchome.com.

abcsite.jpg

i actually LOVE this store and it was the catalyst i needed to start a business in ’93. if you’re coming to nyc, put it on your hit list!

picture8.png

these are pics of the newly renovated plaza hotel. i think they did a good job mixing playful elegance with unstuffy.

picture6.png

the images came from jen ramos at made by girl. her blog is full of eye candy and i kept going back to it throughout the day, lovin and being inspired by her.

when i went there just now to get the url i saw her new post for us animal lovers :

phoenix-5months.jpg

really i should be getting back to work but a couple others that i passed thru were so pretty i have to pass them on:

it’s been awhile but pretty pam garrison inspired me

pam.jpg

extravagant_liaisons_in_ss.jpg

these are her gorgeous extravagant liasons as in Somerset Magazine.

also, check out the brand new material girls. i adore their banner, and they have lots of good info. hi emily!

finalblogheader-materialgirls.jpg

finally, the wing and the prayer i’m referring to? that would be the Architectural Digest show I’m so determined to do. but many of you probably know, putting on a show is a lot of detail! so much for my relaxing and writing in miami for awhile. one of our lines uses these old maps of downtown nyc. they really are pink and so pretty! it’s kind of like google satellite with house numbers and lots!

dscn0978.jpg

ok i have to get back to work, the excel sheet is calling…it so goes against my grain to do this end of it!

for my first giveaway, the winner is the wonderful Lorraine who writes lpvintage.com
i’m so happy to meet you and get a glimpse into your world. it was fun going thru your site and older posts.

fyi, Lorraine is so diverse! one of her posts led me to karla, who i adore, and then to scrapblog.com, a really interesting site and what could be the wave of the future. it would be a fun way to do a book. can’t wait to dig in, have you seen it or done any pages? these are Lorraines: Jax and Finn

and truth be told, i stole this idea of the random number generator someplace and can’t remember where! if you know let me know! anyway it was the perfect tool for this, check it out random.org at or this beauty LOL!

me me me

adsc07872.jpg

i’m a little tired of talking about myself all the time. i’ve been answering a lot of comments (something i haven’t had the luxury of doing till lately), and have had the chance to explore all the luscious blogs out there. my next post will be about sharing them!

adscn0935.jpg

but…i just got a copy of Romantic Homes for Valentine’s Day and was one of the contributers on what’s romantic to me. i was blown away by the company i was in and completely inspired by their layouts and stories! here’s a sampling:

adscn0946.jpg

i am in love with this woman from House, Inc. look at her layout!
adscn0940.jpg

adscn0938.jpg

my girl Tara Frey:

adscn0955.jpg

this was mine of course:

adscn0937.jpg

i could go on and on, it’s a beautiful issue as usual. i know there are so many of you out there with so much talent. if you want to showcase it in a magazine, i suggest you contact RH with some shots of your stuff. they are so easy to work with and always need new ideas so why not?

ok, on another note, i’m paring down and just have way too much stuff. this batch was used in a photoshoot recently and i’m not taking it to florida or putting it in storage sooooo, it’s going to be my first giveaway! if you leave a comment i’ll have the random number counter choose the winner. free shipping, LOL!

the future is bright

www.lelievre.eu

surfing around i found this pretty french fabric house. i love the way they shot the detail.

it’s funny when sad things happen how good ones do too. like the universe wants to make us feel better…
between all the beauty on the blogs and the web i feel like staying home all day today surfing. (not to mention the chill in the ny the air)! I forgot my camera so what’s the point of going out? LOL. my good news is that i’m doing a shoot with VOG*E and Steven M**SEL using my lucite funiture and have to get some pieces upholstered tout de suite for a shoot on Tuesday. it may be the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to me! (career wise ;)

and it’s still in the works but i think i’m going to do the Architectural Digest Home Design Show as a first time exhibitor this March in NYC. at least that’s my goal. They saw the Helena Rubenstein chair in a mag and asked me to participate! (i felt so special so how could i say no)? now i really have to get it together, products, site, booth decor. the pressure is on. please come if you can!

Ce que j’aime en toi

dsc09077.jpg

i took a day or so to get used to my new situation, to look around and just be without rushing. Corey inspired me to take some pics of the things i passed on the daily here in miami. (more to come)

dsc09091.jpg

and this book i ordered on french amazon finally arrived! it’s a compilation by husband and women artists who created images of what they love about each other. i happened to be lucky enough to meet one of the artists (France Dumas) as she was sketching the fleamarket at clingancourt one day and we became friends. now she’s going to do the illustrations for my fleamarket book on Paris now that i have the time to sit and write!

i love the variety of styles

One in a Million You

daisy.jpg

(our first day together)

sorry i’ve been an absentee blogger lately, but as you many know i’ve been taking care of my babylove, Daisy dog. well, yesterday was our last day together. she and i went to the beach and she passed away quietly later in the day. i thank her for getting me to florida and staying just long enough to spend one night together in the new place. we’ve seen 3 decades together and she was the most gentle pitbull to walk this earth. this corny Larry Graham song below was ours. of course this blog is a place i feel at home, so thank you all for always being here. so snuggle, smooch and smother your little angels today from us!

love c & d

Love has played its games on me so long.
I started to believe I’d never find anyone,
that could try to convince me to give in.
Said you can’t win.

But one day the sun came shining through.
The rain had stopped, and the skies were blue.
And oh, what a revelation to see…
someone was saying “I love you” to me.

A one in a million, chance of a lifetime.
Then life showed compassion,
and sent to me a stroke of luck called you…
a one in a million you.

I was a lonely man with empty arms to fill.
Until I found a piece of happiness to call my own.

And life is worth living again.
For to love you, to me, is to live…

i told you it was corny! well today i took lots of time to write you all back, thank you so much. having time now to get back to my life and sharing this world with you is a great gift. one blog led to another, so of course i have to pass them on cause they’re so beautiful…

Feeding my soul is Corey’s awe-inspiring blog, Tongue and Cheek

frenchantiquesp.jpg

img_4167.jpg

which led me here:

To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury; and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable; and wealthy, not rich; to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly; to listen to stars and birds, to babes and sages, with open heart; to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasion, hurry never; in a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious grow up through the common. This is to be my symphony.

William Henry Channing

thank you for coming, you know i love and adore you!

Glimpsing Shocking Stockings

dsc00301.jpg

‘Anything Goes’ was the theme the past couple days at ‘Art Deco Weekend’ here on south beach. what a ton of fun events, including these classics at the auditorium:

anythinggoes.jpeg/dubarry.jpeg/roberta.jpeg

the deco lovers were out in full force, a highlight for me was seeing Doris Eaton Travis, the oldest living Ziegfield Follies girl. her new book is out and is abFAB, full of pics and her unbelievable story.

i’ve been in the doghouse

dsc08959.jpg

hi all! it’s been a gross and grueling couple of days but until i can lay my head on my own pillow, getting the place ready is my singular obsession. i call it the doghouse cause our little cabana is pretty much all for daisy. thank god she’s cute (to me anyway) cause her full time care is taking its toll. the doctor says she’s strong as an ox but she does tip over a lot and gets stuck in odd places. so salvatore (below) and i sanded and painted the floor and took 40 years of contact paper off the shelves (that stuff should be illegal)! anyway it’s been hours of scouring and it’s still not up to par but tomorrow i’ll get a bed and some dishes for daisy, then we’re off the couch at my bud’s and into our little abode! (more than anything i want new light fixtures)

ok, now for the nightshift, paperwork, emails, and revamping my website. does anyone love their e-shopping cart/boutique that you work on yourself? sorry this post isn’t more exciting but mostly i just wanted to say hi and send love!

pss: this is the podcast with kimberly wilson for dailyom

psss: i did get to meet with the FabuLOUS FiFi the other day! it was just as wonderful as i knew it would be albeit, too brief. guess we’ll have to meet again, maybe in paris? her also very fabu sister, Sylvie met with us too, and we’re hoping to rendezvous in the south of france in may. you should come too! this pic is courtesy of Janet of Shabbyfufu who was Fifi’s feature shoot and the reason we were able to meet here in florida. i saw some of the proofs and boy are the pics gorgeous!

shabbyfufujanet-claudia-fifi.jpg

also want to thank fifi for hooking me up with Tara Frey of Bella Pink who produced this article for Romantic Country. you’re in it so hope you enjoy it!

paradise found

adsc08759.jpg

hi all! i have only a sec before i’ve got to get going but just wanted to send some love and pretty pics. my landlord is taking his sweet time with the apt reno considering he went to M.I.T. well hopefully he’s just being a perfectionist ;p

the above pic is from Art Basel last month. i’ve never been to this world wide art exhibit but i never want to miss it again from everything i’ve heard and seen.

adsc08763.jpg

on my to do list: vizcaya

adsc08766.jpg

and this lucite dining set is on exhibit next door at the bass museum. can’t wait to go tomorrow. wait, there’s another fleamarket tomorrow on lincoln road! ok, monday!

daisy and i are staying with our best friends while the apartment gets finished. the fridge is so full of good stuff. fresh coconuts are the cherries on top!

adsac08782.jpg

our aforementioned friend, who shall remain nameless, wants help with her room.

so put it on the to do list (#1, move the bed, #2 upholster the headboard)!

adsc08780.jpg

a chance meeting with this gallery owner and now we’re talking about using my lucite benches as art. or, well, the upholstery would be the art. interesting concept, can’t wait!

in the meantime, i’m interviewing kimberly from hip, tranquil chick tomorrow evening for her podcast anything you want me to ask her?

finally, i was so excited to speak to the fabulous fifi today and will have the pleasure of a rendezvous with her on tuesday. ok, daisy’s a calling!
