oh man, it’s kicking in
it’s amazing when you have no agenda, rien a faire, and you can let the day take you. i’m finally feeling the magic of the city, i could jump up and down on the bed right now! it’s pure beauty everywhere you look, around every corner. i did schedule a lunch today, thought i should go out since yesterday i sat and wrote most of the day. (did make it out to give a friend an opinion on some Missoni shoes at a Depot Vente, they were AmAzinG for 1oo euros). i have to work by the window cause of the net so i’m feeling like, very french about it. anyway, one of the things i’m writing about is the history of the fleamarkets of paris. after today i realized that it’s ok to have an obsession, it’s what drives you to forge on and when you follow a path you’re rewarded with something you never dreamed of! well that’s what happened today anyway.
after lunch i walked toward coco’s apartment and on the way stopped in my tracks when i found a shop/library filled with old images of paris. there was everything from Mode, Metro and Fetes, so of course i had to ask about the Marche aux Puces. what did i uncover? only the treasure chest of the world! they took me in and sat me with what i felt were like priceless artifacts!
what happend with coco you ask? well i sort of lost my interest in it. yes she’s a great doyenne of fashion and but i have to write a letter to get in, blah blah blah. but it did take me to the chanel store on rue chambon where ooh la la! were women with disposable income living large! for the record i’d love to dress in all chanel from now , but her apartment will have to take a back burner. besides, a bunch of bloggers were invited to go so we can live vicariously through their experiences while i get back to the fleas, ok? if you are having a chanel craving, here are some of the highlights:
Fashion Addict Diary Made a great video, can’t imagine how she did it!
and Cool Hunting was pretty thorough so that’s about enough for me!
anyway, i’ll probably go to jail, i felt like a thief taking these pics but just had to share…seems the fleas were always fascinating, even 100 years ago. funny thing is the stuff they’re selling is still the same! was it old then too? there were hundreds, is it just me??!!
and not for nothin but i am even loving modern paris. not just the bikes and buying veggies everyday, but there’s a water you can drink (also available in the us)! so that no matter how much bread you eat you wake up skinny, (believe me i know, i CAN live on bread alone), this little shopping cart at Monoprix with a retractable handle and wheels.
and (should i be embarassed?) my favorite wine is under 3 euros!!!
PS this is and amazing blog http://ragandbone.com/blogger/
and a cool resource http://www.franglo.com/classifieds/index.php

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA – I love those little shopping carts! Nothing like the huge monsters we have here, eh?
How funny that the things they sold then and now are pretty much the same. Good taste never goes out of style. ;-)

i believe flea markets came out of poverty back in times. people sold their belongings to make ends meet, turning into today’s flea market.
€3 for a ‘carton de vin’ is rather expensive claudia! i guess these are the ‘cheaper’ table wines for every day use with paris prices. i buy a good bottle of merlot for it over here. and to be honest… i would never buy ‘un carton’ :(( just prefer the ‘old fashioned’ bottles.
