Hi Melissa,

Your note led me through  seaches for Tamara de Lempicka, and  A Life of Deco and Decadence. Both were fascinating trips through the net! Thank you so much!

While i was at it, i came across this site that had some of her work. I don’t speak Spanish but it’s my new fave… it doesn’t even matter what they’re talking about!

Louis Icart

icartLouis Icart is one of those artists who captured daily life with playful images of women doing very ordinary things. I’ve started collecting some of the older pictures and came across some I’d never seen before. If you love him too, check out his etchings.  Everyone was so risque for a time so refined!

this is the link on amazon. (Note:) The cover of his erotica book is a bit much but inside is fab if you can get past the cover!

Marie Antoinette 1939

normashearer1.jpgI’m still into any  film about MA and the original is a real beauty. Have there been films about Madame de Pompadour or Mme DuBarry? Maybe their stories aren’t as interesting as MA’s? I would have to think there was SOME drama worth mentioning and documenting….maybe not everyone thinks that the creation of the high style of Baroque and Rococo is fascinating, but I sure do!

Madame Pompadour

Madame de PompadourMy latest obsession….all someone has to do is mention something and it’s off and running through this maze of an internet to learn learn learn….

Tonite it’s Madame de Pompadour, the woman behind the scenes, who designed the Louis XV style. She was responsible for the Petit Trianon (which Mme DuBarry and Marie Antoinette both inherited). Turns out she was the major influenced in the design of furniture, curtains, color, and fashion, and brought writers like Voltaire and painters like Boucher to Versailles. She was an icon that still hasn’t stopped!

The movie

marie11.jpg Finally saw the movie but not what I expected.  Pics like this made me think it would tell tales of running awry at Versailles.  Gorgeous costumes and color, but I want to know more about Mme DuBarry and those before MA.  Thank you, Sophia for making this inspiring and phenomenally gorgeous slice of life. I know many of us are happy just to have the pictures and one of my friends even wants to have it running on mute when it comes out on dvd! Can you please keep making films about these times? I know it fueled my passion for it and now need more!
